Don’t Act Like Prey! Be Assertive! (9)

Mountain lions are aggressive.  They have to be.  They are carnivores.  If they do not kill, they do not eat, and they die.

Mountain lions do not have any more of a choice than rabbits do.  Nature made them the way they are.

As humans, we have choices.  Although there are people who kill other people, that is an extreme example of aggressive behavior.  The more common result of aggressive people is that they treat others with disrespect.  They may not be killing other physically, but they are killing relationships with the people around them.

Unfortunately, this can be easy to do.  Every time we yell at someone, snap at someone, we are treating him or her with disrespect.  We are acting like a predator.  We also act like a predator when we do not consider the other’s thoughts and feelings.  This is often a very selfish approach.

Others won’t respect us if we don’t respect them and treat them with respect.  They may do what we want out of fear, but fear does not work as loyalty and love do.

Do you want to act like a predator?  Do you want to be someone who damages and kills relationships?

The choice is yours!
